Hope: True hardcore PvP. Like Diablo 2 Hardcore. I demolish the enemy team, take their items, and demolish their corpses using "Find Item".
Fear: My hope does not come true.

I don't really have a biggest hope/fear. I think the game will be amazing.
My only concern is that the PvP stays as amazing as it is now. While things may be unbalanced, I've never ran across a game of this genre with this fast pace actioned PvP. It's the best i've ever played, and i hope it stays the same.

Hope: Is as casual as the current GW and that there will still be a multi professions system (it's why I bought GW in the first place).
Fear: Power being balanced around items and level, instead of level and personal skill, and team work. AKA turning it into WoW.

I'm bringing this thread back from the dead.
Another Fear:
GW2 is only being made because ANet can't come up with anything original anymore. They're looking for more people to play their games, so why not have a rip-off of World of Warcraft that people can relate to, but has a one time only pay to play...

Hope: No titles. No AI companions that kill the quality & quantity of pugs.
Fear: Stupid title grind that's suppose to be the PvE endgame.

The average pickup group player is what kill the quality of pugs. And then with quality down, us H/Hers can choose either to play with the AI or to quit the game. And there goes quantity. At least with H/H you can still have us in towns.

The point is that GW was marketed as a cooperative RPG. With henchies, you had a fair chance of failure, so PuGs were often a better choice. Even bad PuGs were good in the overall scheme of things, because they taught bad players how to be better and introduced them to people who were willing to teach them. Heroes have pretty much demolished this system, all but guaranteeing that the average player picks H/H over PuG... which in turn all but guarantees there are no PuGs, so the average player is forced to H/H - unless they've got a reliable guild/alliance/circle of friends they made way back when.
Even then, it's usually just two guys with six heroes...
On topic, but in line with the above:
HOPE: GW2 is as fresh and exciting as Guild Wars was.
And I mean Prophecies. Renaming the game was stupid, and most of the additions that were shoved into the game afterwards have only changed or destroyed what I liked about Guild Wars in the first place.
FEAR: GW2 turns into WoW.
There is nothing wrong with WoW, but grind is not why I bought this game.

Hope: No subscription! Also that they keep the 8 skill limit, or at least keep it small (I don't want 80 skills on my bar and only use several of them, like many MMOs). And finally I hope that they'll add the ability to dual wield weapons other than daggers
I lied! I have one last hope, and that is that I hope the open world events that they gave examples of, are truly going to be as such. Ex. Dragon attacks village, people band together to fight it off and everyone that participates gains something, but if nobody participates perhaps the village will be demolished.
Fear: Grind based! I have such a fear that the game will be grind based, I don't actually think it will but Im scared that it may end up this way. Casuals > Hardcore and this is coming from someone that plays 5+ hours a day usually. Titles are fine as long as they offer no in-game benefit! My largest fear is items=power (WoW anyone?). If it gets to the point where there is no cap on damage/stats for an item... I won't be buying, period. When items keep getting stronger it allows even the most unskilled player to do very well if they have all the time/money, and that is NOT right.

Hope: PvE will be a bigger challenge and Hard Mode is put in soon after release. And that different races get special skill/traits other then looks *like norn can transform and whatnot*, most people disagree with that I think but I think it will make things more interesting.
Fear: That they do not include my all 3 favorite professions *necro, sin, rit*.
